SoftType: NATOStockItem
Represents a NATO item of Supply which is an item of production (part, article) which a responsible supply management authority has determined as being required to meet a specific supports requirement. This part has to be defined in compliance with supports needs (transport, usage, features, etc.) to meet all supports requirements with the possibility of repeated usage. One item of supply may represent several items of production, for example made by various producers, which do not have to be distinguished between from the viewpoint of supports requirements. The NATO Stock number is identified by 13 digits NSN (NATO Stock Number) number which is build of a unique NIIN number (NATO Item Identification Number 9 digits) and a 4 digits NSC code ( NATO Supply Classification Code). the NSC is optional and represents a group or class of similar items.
The NATO Item Identification Number (NIIN) (Last Nine (9) Digits of an NSN) is the fixed part of the NSN, and it remains associated with the IoS concept throughout its life cycle. However, the NSC (First Four (4) Digits) may change if there is a revision of the IoS Classification structure.
